Founded in 1987, Maui Jim started as a small company selling sunglasses on Ka'anapali Beach in Lahaina, Maui. Recognizing the need for technology to protect eyes from intense glare and harmful UV rays while capturing the vibrant colors of the island, Maui Jim developed the PolarizedPlus2® lenses. These lenses revolutionized the eyewear market by providing superior glare protection and 100% UVA and UVB blockage.

Initially launching with 7 classic styles, Maui Jim has since expanded to over 125 styles of sunglasses, all equipped with polarized lenses. Originally based in Lahaina, Maui, the company continues to design and test all its sunglasses there. In 2022, Maui Jim joined Kering Eyewear, a member of the global luxury eyewear group Kering. Kering Eyewear also designs, develops, and distributes eyewear for other prestigious brands, including LINDBERG, Gucci, Cartier, Saint Laurent, Bottega Veneta, Balenciaga, Chloé, Alexander McQueen, Montblanc, Brioni, Dunhill, Boucheron, Pomellato, Alaia, MCQ, and Puma.
